The Chopping Block

I’m back at it.

After taking the summer off, the dining room table has become my office again - I’ve missed my padded chair and pecking away at my manuscript. No make up, comfy clothes, bare feet, ponytails and chips for lunch; my focus is on the writing.

I needed a break from the 81,714 words that I have committed to paper. But, lately, they have been taunting me and calling me back to them. It’s time to finish what I started.

It wasn’t just the words that I ignored for a while; I’m writing a memoir, I needed a break from ME. Some time away has given me fresh eyes, perspective.

Now is the ruthless part – chop chop - content edits. Stripping away parts that I like, but don’t fit. I’ll be sorry to say good-bye to some words, phrases, paragraphs, maybe even chapters. It’s all for the greater good: a better book.

Hand me a hatchet, it’s time to trim the fat.
