When given the choice of a summer childhood treat, I usually chose lemonade over ice cream.
It was sweet, thirst quenching and yellow, my favourite colour when I was a girl.
Looking back, maybe my love of lemonade foreshadowed some of the health lemons that would be coming my way.
I have often been asked how I am able to make “lemonade out of lemons.” There is no easy answer. Maybe some people are born more positive than others? Maybe it’s situational, environmental? I’m not sure.
What I do know is that I had the benefit of a rock-solid support system and felt very well loved. That never changed even when my health did. I felt consistently lucky.
A foundation built from love doesn’t mean it’s perfect, but the strength comes from the intentions. My resilience is borne from a lot of that strength.
As an adult, instead of using the word lucky, I choose gratitude.
I am grateful for many things throughout my day, and life. Gratitude is a choice that becomes a habit.
Over the years, I have made a lot of lemonade. Now, I vary my treat choices, as well as my metaphors, because isn’t variety is the spice of life? :)
