Bunny Tales

Writer: lindsayirelandlindsayireland

I am not religious, but still consider myself spiritual. Easter may not be a holy day for me, but I link the holiday to new beginnings, hope and chocolate.

Crocuses, daffodils, tulips and hyacinths are sprouting; spring is in the air! I know Mother Nature is working her magic when my nose begins to run and my eyes get itchy. Allergy season has begun and that means our landscape is about to get a lot brighter.

It’s not just the anticipation of bursts of colour that lift my spirits, listening to the chirping birds is a joyous way to start the day. I recall Disney movies with bluebirds painting hearts in the sky and trilling songs with the bunnies.

The holiday also means Easter chocolate. The holy grail of food, shaped like bunnies: almost too pretty to eat.

I feel a little bit guilty when I break off the bunny’s cocoa ear and let it melt in my mouth. Poor little rabbit; he looks pathetic sitting back in the fridge, earless. It doesn't feel right. I should finish what I started: it's the compassionate thing to do…. my spiritual side says so.
